Savannah's head is shaped oddly in the back. There's sort of a shelf. Our pediatrician referred us to a pediatric neurologist at Primary Children's Hospital. He and his partner agree that it is a certain condition that is a big long word that I can't remember. No mental disabilities whatsoever. Just cosmetic. It's fairly obvious though. The neurologist said he really doesn't want to have to put a helmet on a baby so young so he wants to wait 'til she's six or seven months and reevaluate. He's hoping it will flatten on it's own, or at least begin to which would mean it would probably continue to flatten on it's own. We're hoping so too. For more than one reason. Firstly, how aggravating would it be for Savannah to have to wear a helmet? That'd be horribly sad to watch her go through. Secondly, since it's cosmetic most insurances will not cover it. I've heard it's about $3,500. Ouch.

I wet the back of her hair in these pictures so you could see it better, Momma.
In the meantime her hair is falling out. Fast. And the "shelf" in the back of her head it's becoming much more obvious because of it. So I've been looking for baby bonnets. And I haven't found one. Anyone know where I can find some?
I've never made a bonnet but let me see if my Mom or I have a pattern for one. We could give it a go.....however, when I look at your babe is all I see is a perfect little doll. Do you want to cover it so other people don't ask about it? I don't think it's that noticeable but I understand your desire to protect your babe-people can be real ignorant.
ReplyDeleteI have crocheted one before but it was hard to do and took a while.I just don't want comments. I should be used to it with all the ones I get about Mya though. :)
